I strongly recommend…

038

...getting a subscription to the CrossFit journal to all my clients and anyone for that matter who takes their health  and wellness seriously. Its $25/year and it is an absolute wealth of info on all things CrossFit.... a broad subject indeed!  I don't believe there is distinction between mind and body - they are one and the same. But you must get good information before you can optimize the results which are possible with our demanding and comprehensive regimen. Much of what we acheive is dependant on learning about better movement, food and sleep concepts.

If $25/year is too much for you, at the very least spend some time navigating around and reading/watching videos on http://www.crossfit.com/.   Its free and time well spent!

A few calcium questions prompt this

Here's a little information on getting Calcium in your diet. Dairy is not the only way to get the calcium we need for strong bones.

Here are 15 foods high in calcium that don't come from a cow:

Sesame Seeds

A quarter cup of sesame seeds has 351 mg calcium.

Spinach

A cup of boiled spinach has 245 mg.

Collard Greens

A cup of boiled collard greens has 266 mg.

Blackstrap Molasses

One tablespoon has about 137 mg.

Kelp

One cup of raw kelp has 136 mg.

Tahini

Two tablespoons of raw tahini (sesame seed butter) have 126 mg.

Broccoli

Two cups of boiled broccoli have 124 mg.

Swiss Chard

One cup of boiled chard has 102 mg.

Kale

One cup of boiled kale has 94 mg.

Brazil Nuts

Two ounces of Brazil nuts (12 nuts) have 90 mg.

Celery

Two cups of raw celery have 81 mg.

Almonds

One ounce of almonds (23 nuts) has 75 mg.

Papaya

One medium papaya has 73 mg.

Flax Seeds

Two tablespoons of flax seeds have 52 mg.

Oranges

One medium orange has 52 mg.

As you can see, eating a varied diet rich in dark leafy greens, fruit, nuts, and seeds will give you plenty of calcium and you'll get so many other health benefits from these foods as well.

Below is another list with some of the same and some different as above.

CrossFit Lifesport is doing a little advertising :)

Be sure to check out the monday Toledo Blade peach section where our pal and athlete, Dave Murray, has written an editorial about the extraordinary improvements he has experienced with our program the past 9 months.
And run over to http://www.toledonightout.com/ for local entertainment info and you will see a small ad for the best little gym in Toledo.

Happy new year!

Ok, on the heels of the dietary carnage that is known as "the holidays", i am renewing my effort to cut way back on my coffee and recommitting to utter and complete paleo-ness! By the time of the Warrior dash (6/4/11) i will be a lean, mean 39 yr. old machine! :)
 Who is with me?
