Athlete Profile-Janet Snider

Janet Snider started training with Todd Ovall back in 2007, at the YMCA. She is the longest-standing member of CrossFit LifeSport. "I wanted to be stronger and able to take care of myself", she says. Janet has accomplished that, for sure! She is in the gym, working out, 2-3 mornings a week.

Education, through reading, was her career for a long time....now Janet teaches by example, in the fitness arena instead of the library.

Janet exemplifies what we can do, both physically and mentally, if we have the drive. She is proud to be doing things many people her age can't. At 68 years young, Janet is healthy and strong. She wants to"be an example/role model for younger women that we can be strong and active through-out all our life".

Always smiling, always friendly...Janet is a joy to work out with.

Miss T’s progress

The pics inadequately convey how much more skilled, stronger and fitter she became in that time nor can they describe what a great, smart young lady she is. Going to  be a great lawyer someday!

   Congrats on the engagement, T!

Athlete Profile-Dan Phillips

Dan Phillips joined CrossFit LifeSport in May of 2013, and has become a regular fixture around here. He works full-time as the bar manager/bartender at The Ottawa Tavern, in downtown Toledo. "My full time job is a bartender and I wanted to start actually helping people in way that benefited their health, and not the other way around."

"I obtained my certification at Rogue Fitness in Columbus and was lucky enough to train under some big names in the CrossFit world like Julie Foucher, Pat Barber, Joe DeGain and more.  It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and definitely encourage anyone interested in CrossFit to one day get their Level 1 Certification."

Dan is friendly, encouraging & a great addition to the LifeSport family. "I like to keep CrossFit fun, yet competitive.  One of the most important components of a CrossFit box, to me, is the environment. I hope that I help create a welcoming, fun yet challenging time whenever someone comes to LifeSport."

Dan feels that "Todd’s experience, knowledge and overall personality as a coach made it an easy choice for [him] to join." He "used to workout in normal “globo-gym” type gym for years and became bored of the whole “leg day, back and bi’s day” etc". Dan truly enjoys designing & programming workouts to truly challenge all of us at LifeSport.

Inspirational quote/favorite mantra: "The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds."   (Henry Rollins – “Iron and the Soul”)

Paleo challenge approaches and unpublished yelp review #2

Thinking about June for our next challenge… lets hear the feedback on the facebook family page.

And our resident pediatrician, K.W. had some nice things to say…

” I've been at LifeSport since October 2013 and LOVE it. As a rower in college, I was looking for something with the same intensity and "community" style I was used to. This place provides both and I couldn't agree more that Todd is the best coach around. He is experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of nutrition and fitness and knows how to modify workouts for all fitness levels and abilities. He is also incredibly personable and creates an environment that is not threatening and very comfortable so you never feel intimidated. If you are looking for a challenging workout that will get you into the shape of your life all while be surrounded by awesome, supportive people with similar goals, this is DEFINITELY the place for you!”

Invisible Yelp reviews

So it turns out Yelp has some weird rules and are actually being investigated and sued by various entities for unfair business practices and extortion.

Everyone’s reviews (though not “recommended” by yelp because they don’t understand we aren’t a hit-n-run retail business) have been greatly appreciated and will be listed here and elsewhere because your well-worded opinions and results of training are deserving of note if not praise. The beauty of what we do at CrossFit LifeSport is individual results equal success for the business. In other words, If we hadn’t done some very good things these reviews would never happen and we wouldn’t have this fun, supportive, thriving community and i wouldnt have a business. We aren’t selling widgets or some other B.S. that is only useful for making someone money while providing questionable value; we have always dealt in positive, life-changing, evolutionary fitness experiences. Some serious dedication, humility, effort, and teamwork have gone into making the results you’ve sought a reality and all the recognition, gratitude and appreciation which has gone into these reviews i reflect back at you! Great sacrifices have been made so its very gratifying!

“Lifesport rules!  I've been to every Crossfit box in Toledo and Lifesport is hands down the best in my opinion.  Todd is the most experienced, knowledgeable coach in the area and his programming is top notch.  Lifesport also has a great environment of friendly helpful athletes that will encourage and motivate you to achieve your fitness goals.  I love this gym!” ~D.P.

Athlete Profile-Maureen (Moe) Miller

September 2013, Maureen Miller, Moe to everyone at CrossFit LifeSport, joined our family. She found her spot within the group, almost immediately. "I originally started with CrossFit because I was looking for more challenging workouts. And once I did my first couple WOD’s, with Olympic lifting, I was hooked."

Moe has done so well at CrossFit, that she got her CrossFit Level 1 Coach Certification recently. " Getting my certification was another CrossFit challenge that I saw for myself. I also really enjoy teaching/training/coaching people, so getting my certification was a great fit for me. I can now coach others in a sport that I really believe in and one that will really help make a difference in their everyday lives."

-      Moe brings a positive, confident attitude to the workouts which she hopes helps to motivate others to continue with the great program Todd has built. Everyone enjoys working out with her because of healthy competitive nature and her shining personality.

-    " I can already see the improvements CrossFit has made in  my  life outside of the gym and I hope that by coaching at LifeSport I can help others see those improvements as well."

-       Moe has a B.S.in Biology & an MBA from Bowling Green State University. She works as an Area Keeper in the African Hoofstock Collection at the Toledo Zoo.
